Presidents Day

Stephen and I had an altogether more relaxed President's Day on Monday. We went to Metro 29 diner on Lee Highway for brunch, then onto the Guitar Centre, then back to Old Town for the parade. We had a great view of everything - although we did miss the first little bit of the parade as we were a little late getting back. It was just as random as last year! There were clowns, followed by civil war re-enactors, followed by George Washington himself, followed by motorised street sweepers. (No kidding! They were following the horse and cart from Mt Vernon and I wonder if they were there to hoover any horse poop....but the bag of the vacuum was unzipped on one of them. They would have sprayed poop everywhere if they'd hoovered it!!)

The mayor was driven round the parade in the middle of a fleet of Smart Cars. His had his hat on top which was hysterical! There were also fleets of PT Cruisers all souped up and decorated. And Brownies, Girl Scouts (some dressed as giant cookies), Boy Scouts...lots and lots of them! A lady was telling us that if you march in a parade you get another badge to sew on your shirt which is why there were so many thousands of them.

Afterwards we went to Pop's for ice cream which was yummy. We've not been there for ages and I'd forgotten how delicious and lovely their ice cream is. I had a mix of black raspberry and vanilla and it was YUM!

We took loads of photos of the parade and New York, but we've not had a minute to sort through them. I will have a session at the weekend and post some for you.
